Frequently asked questions.

Is this a paid service?

This is a free mentorship service. No fees or hidden fees are needed from mentees. Mentors are working at no expense to provide mentorship to their mentees.

What makes a qualified mentor?

Mentors are residents, fellows and/or attending physicians who have experience working with disadvantaged and/or underrepresented students/population in the past.

What makes a qualified mentee?

A qualified mentee is a pre-medical student in college or a post-graduate who is applying/planning on applying to medical school within the next 2 years. Our services focus on under-represented and disadvantaged pre-medical candidates. Please refer to the AMCAS website for the definitions of under-represented and under-privileged in medicine.

Are my mentors all physicians?

Mentors are underrepresented residents, fellows or attending physicians in various specialties.

How do I communicate with my mentor/mentee?

All mentorships are virtual. The mentees and mentors can decide what applications to use best to communicate. Widely used apps in Mulu Mentorship are WhatsApp, Zoom & FaceTime.

How much time does this mentorship program require?

Generally, we try to encourage that each mentor/mentee spend a minimum of 1 hour a month, but we find that some mentors and mentees are able to commit more time to spend with each other.

Can I meet my mentor/mentee in person?

Due to COVID, we highly discourage any in person meetings of mentor/mentee. Job shadowing and/or research opportunities if available in your area will be communicated to you via Mulu Mentor’s program manager. We advise that you keep your communication completely virtual.

Can I mention Mulu Mentor on my medical school application?

Yes, you can mention it as a mentorship activity.

Does being a mentee with Mulu Mentor guarantee my entrance to medical school?

Your entrance to medical school depends on several factors on your application. This mentorship program is meant to help you better navigate the application process to get to medical school. Mulu Mentor does not guarantee your entrance to medical school.
